SUPPORT FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED ENTERPRISES AT SIZZLING SUMMER BBQ
Representatives of more than 60 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) dodged the summer showers to enjoy a sizzling summer BBQ at Burnby Hall and Gardens on 10 July.
Hosted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Business Services Team and the Federation of Small Businesses, the event provided an opportunity for local businesses to network and talk to perspective customers.
Local businesses also had access to a number of marquees promoting a range of council services, including planning, training services (apprenticeships), procurement and building control, allowing them to find out more about what the council can do to support local business.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economy, investment and inequalities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council has an excellent relationship with the FSB and the work both organisations undertake in partnership is always well-received by the local business community.
“The events we host always prove extremely popular and feedback is always very positive.
“As the local authority, it is our ambition to support creation and growth in business, help the local economy flourish and prosper and provide employment for our residents.
“I would like to thank all those who attended the event and also express our gratitude to our caterers, Lily Pad Café, for putting on food and drink.”
Mike Bisby, chair of the Federation of Small Businesses in East Yorkshire, was delighted to welcome the attendees and to introduce John Doris of East Riding College, who opened the event and spoke about the development of the new college campus in Beverley. John was ably followed by Paul Bell, the council’s head of economic development.
Mike said: “All of us spoke of the importance of co-operation in the regeneration programmes being initiated and driven across the county.
“The weather, as opposed to last year’s event, was fine – the only place it seems that the sun shone was at Burnby Hall.”
