Laptop repair for Gilberdyke without losing a day off work. Gilberdyke has its own railway station, and a lot of people here commute to Hull, Selby or Leeds. So the most useful thing I can offer is flexibility: drop your laptop at the North Cave workshop early in the morning by arrangement, and collect it in the evening once it's fixed.

The workshop is a few miles from Gilberdyke. Depending on where you are in the village, you may also be inside the free 5-mile collection area β ring and I'll check your address.
The Laptop Faults I See Most
Cracked or flickering screen
Screens are the most common laptop repair. A replacement panel is ordered for your exact model, and fitting usually takes under an hour once the part arrives. See screen replacement for more.
Won't charge
If the charging light doesn't come on, the cause is usually the charger, the charging socket or a fault on the board. I test each one rather than guessing, so you don't pay for a part you didn't need.
Slow, hot or shutting down
Dust-clogged fans and dried-out thermal paste make laptops run hot and switch off. A proper internal clean often fixes it. The guide on laptop overheating explains what you can safely check yourself first.

Work Laptops and Home Working
If you work from home some days, a broken laptop is a real problem. Where it's your own machine, I can often swap in a faster SSD at the same time as the repair, so it comes back quicker than before. If it's a company laptop, check with your employer's IT team first β they may need to handle it themselves.
Spilled Something on It?
Switch it off, unplug it and don't try to dry it with a hairdryer. Then bring it in as soon as you can. Liquid damage needs a full clean before any repair, which has a non-refundable Β£39 cleaning fee. Read what to do after a spill for the first steps.

Free Diagnosis and a 90-Day Guarantee
You pay nothing for the first diagnosis, and nothing if you decide not to go ahead. Repairs come with a 90-day guarantee on parts and labour.
Battery Won't Last a Journey?
If your laptop used to last a full train journey and now dies in an hour, the battery is worn out. Laptop batteries lose capacity with age and charging cycles, and a swollen battery can push up the keyboard or trackpad. If you notice that, stop charging it and bring it in, as swollen batteries shouldn't be ignored.
Laptop repair for Gilberdyke customers often includes a replacement battery ordered for the exact model. Fitting is usually quick, and I check the charging circuit at the same time so the new battery isn't damaged by a separate fault.
Keyboards and trackpads
Sticky, missing or dead keys are another common commuter fault, usually from crumbs or a small spill. Some keyboards can be cleaned; others need replacing. I'll tell you which after the free diagnosis.
